Why is Amsterdam Centraal closing on October 3, 2026?
The closure is part of the station’s large-scale renovation, ProRail confirms. Upgrading the signalling system means all trains have to stop for one full day so the work can be done safely.
The work is part of a broader plan to expand the station’s capacity – Amsterdam Centraal is expected to handle around 275,000 passengers a day by 2030. From October 6, 2026 onward, trains will no longer stop at tracks 13-14 for a longer period while platform renovation work continues, so expect some platform changes even after normal service resumes.
