1. By bus from Amsterdam

Route length: 30 km.

When is dahlia season in the Netherlands?
Dahlia season runs from August through October, with the fields typically at their fullest bloom from mid-August onward. Unlike tulips, dahlias don’t have one short, precise peak week — the season is more gradual, so you have several weeks to plan a visit.
Where can I see dahlia fields near Amsterdam?
The dahlia fields are concentrated in the Bollenstreek, the same flower-growing region south of Haarlem known for tulips in spring — around Voorhout, Lisse, and the area near Keukenhof. It’s about 30–40 minutes from Amsterdam by car, bus, or organised tour.
Is it allowed to walk into the dahlia fields?
No, like the tulip fields in spring, the dahlia fields belong to the farms. They are private property, so walking or stepping into them isn’t allowed. You can view and photograph them from the marked paths, cycling routes, and roads alongside the fields, or from GPS-guided tours through the area. Some show gardens connected to local growers do allow visitors inside, some of them even let you buy dahlias directly.
When is the best time to visit the dahlia fields?
If you want more than just the fields, plan your visit around the Holland Dahlia Event, held this year from 28 to 30 August 2026 at Kasteel Keukenhof and nearby dahlia farms. The event’s show gardens are open throughout August and September, and at some of them you can meet the dahlia growers in person and buy dahlias directly from the source.
